A good example of a lean factory is my wife’s kitchen

SORT – Only essential items are kept in the kitchen for day to day cooking

STRAIGHTEN – There is a place holder for every item

SHINE – The kitchen is cleaned after every meal preparation and the meal itself

STANDARDIZE – My wife buys at Sam’s Club, Walmart & the Indian store. She has qualified items over the years and buys good quality and reasonably priced goods. Purchases are made with a list once a week

SUSTAIN – There is no change in the methodology

Some times I wonder why we need to teach this principle to a factory. Our mothers and wives have been doing this for centuries

KANBAN – My wife notices the container is half full while cooking. This goes into the list. She shops at the end of the week with the list.
